Purchased an Alton generator on 9-23-08 at Columbus, Indiana Menards. T ook it out of box 3 days ago, it ran for 20 minutes then stoped.

will not run again. Called Alton Co., they said to take back to Menards, called Menards. The Columbus, Indiana manager said, I would have needed to bring it back before 30 days. Excuse me I never needed to use it untill now, so it was still in box.

They will not exchange it, or anything.

From now on We will do our Business with wal-mart, at least they honor their store policies.

I also sit on my porch and yell at kids to stay out of my yard, along with not being able to read the warranty book that came with my generator or the big signs at the store that note the return policy of 30 days. when your at wall mart be sure to return any fruit you buy that goes bad after 6 months.

ALTON HAS TAKEN CARE OF THE PROBLEM. THEY WHERE VERY UNDERSTANDING TO THE PROBLEM, AND SHIPPED ME A NEW COIL, WITCH BY THE WAY WAS THE PROBLEM.

SO AS FAR AS YOUR TESTING AND WHAT I DID TO IT, WAS NOT THE ISSUE! FUTHER MORE I STILL STAND TO NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH MENARDS AGAIN!

When your car breaks, you take it to get fixed. When your generator breaks, you expect to leave it at Menards doorstep and not be responsible.

These are tested before they are shipped. What did or didn't you do to break it? Did it have a service waaranty? What did the service center find out?

Did they fix it? Let it go.

Hold on here Robert, you are making a post on a website claiming that you will never shop at Menards because of a store policy that has been in place for years and not expect any criticism for it? Here's an idea for ya - fill out an installed complaint form, that gets sent to the manufacturer, they will send a letter back to you on information on how to deal with it, and then contact menards if they say that you are able to return it.

It is not at the store level to honor a manufacturer warranty unless menards hears from that manufacturer and gets an ok.

Knowing about this may have saved you a headache and hopefully your issue will be resolved.

robert probably thinks his staying away from menards will end up costing the company $$$. actually, not having to deal with his returns on huge generators and the headaches they cause will save time and allow employees to sell more product as opposed to returning something.

by all means, sir, go to home depot or lowe's. they cater well to mental midgets.

i'm sure they also have a lot more free time to deal with your crappy generator problems that was your fault to begin with. you lose!

If you were running a business, you would be able to understand the policy at Menards. Are they to take the word of every person who tries to do a return 2 or 3 months after purchase that the product was never used?

Unfortunately, the problem lies with other people who fraudulently place returns.

Their dishonesty is what ruins it for the rest of consumers, not the retail establishment. Your disgust, unfortunately, is misplaced.

menards' return policy has been spelled out for you plain as day, both by myself and Wondering. if you still attempt to defy logic, then nothing can be done to help you.

30 days is more than generous.

it is time you take some responsibility as a customer and make sure you know about these things before you make a purchase on something that can be as expensive as a generator.

always remember: an informed shopper is a smart shopper and a more wealthy shopper.

This man tried to make you understand that he had no use for the generator up untill 2 or 3 days ago. So, I would be pissed at Menards for at least not showing a little respect for a customer.

So Who Cares where he goes to spend his money, it is his to do with what he pleases.

Good luck with the Alton Company. I am sure they will treat you better than Menards did!

What store policy isn't Menards honoring? Their policy on power equipment is to offer an exchange for returns within 30 days of purchase.

After 30 days the product would have to be taken to a service center. Your return was well outside the 30 day period. Menards has no way of knowing how much you ran the generator in the past 6 months. The 30 day policy is very generous.

Menards must have the returned product serviced and then often sell it at a loss. The manufactures do not accept returns of power equipment. Their warranty covers the repair of their equipment and that sounds like what is being done for you. When you buy a car and the starter fails after 6 months the dealer doesn't take it back and give you a refund, you get it repaired under warranty.

Power equipment works the same way. Perhaps you need to gain an understanding of how warranties work before you start complaining about the retailers.

How many years have you worked for Menards? You have to be an employee, to make rude remarks like this.

Alton is going to make this right, but as far as your resoponse, you can continue to work and buy from there, too many smart people on this web sight, know how rude and how dishonest they are. Since you could not even give your name {fella} I suggest you keep your rude remarks to yourself, and leave my buying decissions to me!

uhh, after 30 days it becomes the responsibility of the manufacturer to honor all warranties and repairs. they were wrong to send you back to menards, and you weren't smart enough to question this decision. menards will be a better place with a few less *** people like you.
