Menards - Value choice cabinets and customcraft countertop
Remodeled the kitchen in my home 3 years ago and now have the home sold. It hasnt been uninhabited for two years but heat and a/c were on to control temps.
Had value choice white thermofoil cabinets and over half of the doors the white plastic that is the thermofoil has released from the substrate and bubbled out.
Also bought the Customcraft high definition countertops and of the 4 runs of counter two have delaminated. after removal i peeled up the laminate and there was almost no glue or signs of attachment to the mdf base materials.
have always bought my project materials from menards and started my own contractor business but I think i'll be looking elsewhere for higher quality products.
Reason of review: Bad quality.

I remodeled this house top to bottom with windows doors floor all new utilities, and new furnace and a/c. temp was set at 60 during both winters.
So moisture or heat would laminate counters to fail yet there is neither? And the fact that when I pulled the laminate up there was almost no surface glue on the mdf subtrate of bottom of the laminate?
Several points to make here. The modern water based glues aren't going to look the same as the old solvent based glues used for many years.
It is odd that you have products from two different manufacturers delaminating. If this were a common problem you wold see this board filled with complaint about both manufacturers, but you don't. Excess humidity can be a problem with laminates.
Many materials used in construction release moisture such as drywall mud and paint. If all this work is done and the house is shut up without proper ventilation over a period of time the excess humidity could well have caused your problem.
And to add to the previous reply. My local Menards no longer carries the thermofoil cabinets due faulty products.
They no longer carry the Value Choice cabinets by Schrock because they have moved away from Schrock to another cabinet manufacturer. That includes their wood cabinets as well.
I expect you either have more problems with this house than you are telling or that more will appear. Having cabinets and countertops delaminate aren't normal.
Something was off with the temperature or humidity in the 2 years no one was in the house. How low did you have the temperature set?
60 during winter. And the entire house was remodeled all new windows and doors floor furnace a/c utilities. So now tell me what could be wrong with it?
Lack of doors and windows being opened to allow ventilation. New doors and windows are great for trapping in the temp that you want and keeping out the outside temps but lack ventilation
