Were you trying to place an. order on-line?

First of all they have outrageous shipping and handling charges for on-line orders. Second, the bag sale is good in-store only and doesn't apply to on-line orders.

If you have a complaint for corporate, put it in writing. They don't have phone lines for customers to contact the corporate office. There is something you are doing in the store that is drawing their attention to you if in fact you are being followed.

Don't you pay attention to their ads? The ad before Black Friday said it was their last 11% of the year.

Did you see the normal signs for the 11% while you were in the store?

It's you fault for not paying attention to their promotions. Unfortunately you made your purchases when the promotion wasn't running so they out you nothing.

Sold faulty/returned product

Original review updated by user Nov 23, 2021
I went to get a new thermostat and picked up one I thought I would like. Took it home and hooked it up. It was missing the mounting pieces and stickers which I didn't think too hard on. Once hooked up I found that it was turning on my heater when I wanted the AC to kick on. I checked and double checked, and eventually called a HVAC person to come since i thought I did it wrong. I paid $80 for him to tell me I was sold a faulty product. I went back and swapped it out (the customer service rep look skeptical at my explanation). The one I picked up to replace it was still wrapped in plastic (which I didn't realize with the first one). Got home with it and realized they had put a bad product back on the shelf that had already been used. I wasted an hour of time going back to swap it out, 2 hours getting a diagnosis that it was the fault of Menards, and $100 to get such an easily avoidable result. I'd have been better off waiting a day for amazon to deliver it since it wasn't functional for a whole day while I waited for the appointment.

User's recommendation: Double check you aren't receiving used garbage.

The price of the HVAC tech visit in store credit would make me more likely to return/recommend.

Atrocious Menards customer service!

I just purchased a brand new $1000 Criterion upright freezer from Menards in Terre Haute, IN. The freezer motor is making an extremely loud humming noise. I called Menards in Terre Haute, IN where I bought it. I asked for a phone number to the company who makes them. They informed they have no number for them! I asked for a phone number to a tech line where I could talk to someone. They said there is no number available!! They said bring it back in and theyll replace it. I questioned what would I do with all the food in it - no answer! I said I would have to hire someone with a truck to return it - no response. They said I would have to pay a delivery charge of $100+ to deliver the replacement. This is the worst example of customer service I have ever experienced in my 72 years of life. Absolutely stay away from purchasing any appliances from Menards Terre Haute, IN north store.

User's recommendation: Do NOT purchase any appliance from Menards Terre Haute north store!

It pays to check a product out before you make a purchase. When you buy a store branded product made in China don't expect to find a support network in place.

Be glad it failed under warranty and you can return it. If possible replace it with a name brand appliance.

Once the warranty is gone your chances of finding someone to repair it may be difficult to find. There is a reason you can purchase these appliances for a lower price than a name brand appliance.

#2085650

They are offering you an exchange in the appliance. Did you pay for a delivery for your original purchase?

My guess is no.

You are not going to find an company that sell appliances who will pay for or replace your food with the loss of an appliance. That’s what home owners insurance is for.

#2086460
@PissedConsumer2085650

"Be glad it failed under warrenty"??? Why would any human being be glad the item they purchased a week ago failed?

"There is a reason you can purchase these appliances for a lower price than a name brand appliance." You think paying $1000 for a upright freezer is cheap compared to other brands?? " It pays to check a product out before you make a purchase. When you buy a store branded product made in China don't expect to find a support network in place." I was assured prior to purchase by menards staff it was a "quality product that many people have been very satisfied with" "Did you pay for a delivery for your original purchase? My guess is no." Come over here and I'll show you my receipt for the poor delivery service I received where they left it at door step and I had to have my grandson and neighbor muscle it into the house.

That way mr delivery man could avoid unboxing, carrying over the threshold and 3 steps, and avoid testing in which the item failed. " You are not going to find an company that sell appliances who will pay for or replace your food with the loss of an appliance. That’s what home owners insurance is for.

" With homeowners having a $500 or $1000 deductible unless you have a pallet of top shelf lobster and steak in the freezer than no one is going file an insurance claim for food loss below their deductible. I suppose knowing the reputation of ethics menards has then you suggest I file a inflated false report to my insurance company ???

@PissedConsumer2086460

Do you really think a salesperson at Menards is going to say that the imported store brand is a piece of junk? The salespeople are told to push the store brand products and are at times incentivized to do so as the company makes a much higher profit margin on these items.

Why would you be glad it failed under warranty? If it failed a day after the warranty ran out you would get nothing and more than likely wouldn't be able to find anyone to repair it.

The truth about these products is just being pointed out. Keep buying store brand products if you like but realize you are taking a gamble on the quality when you do.

#2087002
@PissedConsumer2086878

The salesman stated the Criterion was part of the Maytag / whirlpool merge and made to high quality standards, He compared the Criterion brand to Sears Kenmore brand which although was a house brand, was still made to the identical quality as the name brand and parts were interchangeable . If this salesman had the ethics of a used car salesman and just feeding me nonsense fluff just so I’d buy this lemon and he earns a commission, then perhaps he should be suspended for intentionally misleading me and who know how many others. If the sales pitch to mislead and misrepresent toe public came from menards corporate than perhaps a recall on these items and prosecution is in order.

#2089179
@PissedConsumer2087002

These private label appliances are manufactured by a number of companies. Look at the tag inside the freezer and see where it was made.

If it was made in China, as a lot of the Criterion appliances are, it probably wasn't made by Whirlpool as most of their products are made in the US or Mexico.

I was surprised to see the big yellow warning stickers on the sides of chest freezers in Menards warning that the refrigerant used in them was explosive in case of fire. Just one more thing firefighters shouldn't have to be worried about if your house should catch on fire.

What exactly is your complaint? Did they say they wouldn't refund your money?

If so, contact your credit card company and dispute the charge.

If they can't ship the product and have refunded your money and you are mad because the can't ship the product, grow up. With the supply chain problems around the world right now there are going to be products any company will have a hard time shipping.

Earlier this year I had a large display model refrigerator delivered to my house from menards. I was at work but my wife and teenage kids were home.

No one ever came to the front door, but since it was pre paid he decided to literally left the refrigerator at the end of my driveway. I only found out when the neighbor across the street out of the blue calls me at work saying theres a nice looking refrigerator in the driveway and a scrap metal guy is questioning if he can have it. My neighbor and son then hauled the refrigerator to the house, and after work I went to the menards store to have a discussion when management and store staffing. The gentleman I purchased the refrigerator from, the employee who schedules deliveries, and the store manager all gave me an absolutely useless blank stare when I questioned how a brand new $2000 delivery could be placed at the curb like it monday's garbage.

The only response was to e mail menards cooperate, or talk to the independent contractor.

After being a dedicated customer of menards since they opened 15 years ago, I have taken my purchases for my house, rental properties, and purchases for my job all to the home depot. Previously I had spend $15,000 to $20,000 a year at menards and staffing at all 3 local stores knew me on a first name basis, but again as 3-21-2021 my wallet has left their building.

Earlier this year I was in the same situation where the lawnmower failed on its maiden voyage. I fill it up with gas to use, the engine refuses to start after 8 pulls, so I go back to look at the manual and 2 minutes gas starts leaking from the filter area, I clean the mess, and after 3 more pulls the @#@#@ rope refuses to retract.

I call menards and they tell me to go some place 120 miles away 1 way and they refuse to help me otherwise. I call the repair store and they tell me its 3 weeks repair time and need $50 deposit regardless of when I purchased the item. Feeling backed in the corner I call my credit card company to dispute the lawn mower purchase. After explaining the situation they sent me a form which I was instructed to have the menards return clerk sign stating they have possession of the mower.

I took the mower back to menards and started getting all types of finger pointing and complaining from the staff, I said all I need is someone to sign this form and you keep the mower. The one clerk regrettably signed the form starting the store has the mower.

I faxed the form to my credit card company and they issued the reimbursement by withholding the original transaction to menards. Instead of buying a new mower a neighbor of mine sold me their old one for $50.00 and has worked great all season long.

How do you claim your purchases as a business expense without receipts? If the purchases were made with credit or debit cards receipts could easily be printed at their kiosk by the returns desk.

Your credit more than likely got canceled when they found there had been thefts of the materials that were returned. Unfortunately contractors and their employees while being good customers can also be some of the biggest shoplifters. Employees get comfortable seeing them in the store frequently and aren't as watchful of their actions. The moral of the story is to get better at record keeping.

Require you employees to turn in receipts in a timely manner.

Your book keeper will be happier and returns will be easier. You will also be able to claim the 11% rebates you are loosing to sloppy record keeping as well.
