I purchased a generator that was absolutely defective and in order to return it I need to pay a service center to deem it unrepairable This is an absolutely ridiculous solution to selling somebody a defective product in fact most of the things return to that store are destroyed and thrown away anyway I have been able to return power equipment that was defective without doing this before I don't see why it cannot happen now I happened now I had to rent a new generator to get by for 2 weeks it Cost me more money than if I was to just buy another cost me $300 to rent one

User's recommendation: Do not shop there.

Monetary Loss: $200.

Preferred solution: Full refund.

Menards Pros: Selection.

Menards Cons: Return policy.

They have signs all around the area where gas powered equipment is sold that tell you they won't take them back once you have put gas in them. This has been the case for years, not something they just started.

How is anyone expected to operate or even test an item that requires gasoline without placing gasoline in the tank????? Then if it fails to start right out of the box the retailer's reply is to throw their hands in the air, tell you to take it to some random place 80 miles away and then walk away before you reply with confusion???

That's like a bike store making a sign saying " no returns once your feet touch the petals, or your rear touches the seat. Vote with your wallet and take your business to a store that appreciates the customer who provides them with a paycheck.

Menards hasn't accepted returns on gas powered equipment for years. The manufacturers have a warranty that covers repairs to defective equipment, not replacement.

The manufacturer won't accept returns on equipment unless a service center says it isn't repairable. This is because all too many consumers abused the return system. There are very few defects but there is a lot of consumers not following directions. Using stale fuel or failing to add are at the top of the list.

It may cost a little more but you are better off purchasing gas powered equipment at a servicing dealer. They typically assemble the product, show you how to operate it and in many cases put gas in it and start it so you know you have an operating machine when you leave.

Perhaps menards should exit the small engine business all together if they can't provide proper customer service instead of trying to low ball small businesses by $5.00
