Bought a yard devil mower. Start cord broke after 4 weeks and I brought the mower back and was told "once it has gas or oil in it it cant be returned only repaired" .That sounded strange because I purchased the mower with oil in it..

So they refer me to a nearby shop "dennys fix it" in elkhorn that gladly takes the mower and lets me know that its a wear and tear item and it will cost 25 bucks to fix. I agree with fewer options and return 5 days later to get a bill for 102.50 for a tune up as well on a mower used 5 times. Went to menards to express concerns (in elkhorn) and the GM was too busy on the phone to talk to me. Menards is a joke and so are their partners.

Stick with Home Depot or Lowes.. never an issue

Monetary Loss: $103.

Why would you buy a mower from Menards? The only brand name they have is MTD, and they are bottom of the barrel.

The cheap price is nice, but as with all that Menards sells...

You get what you pay for. Next time, go to Lowes or Sears and get you a REAL mower instead of a toy.

Guess what read your state laws I took menards to court recently and even if you put gas in their gas powered equipment you still have 15 days to return. If menards wont allow you to return within 15 days go to the small claims court and file it against the store manager and you will in the end get your money back.

Do not back down from menards when you do this stand strong like I did. Small claims is easy to do and let the company who sold menards the gas powered equipment understand that if that goes to court publicity will not be good on their part you will get our mone :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :grin :grin :grin :grin :grin :grin :grin :grin :grin :grin :grin :grin :grin :grin :grin :grin :grin :grin :grin :grin :grin :grin :grin :grin :grin :grin :grin :grin 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) ,) ,) ,) ,) ,) ,) ,) ,) ,) ,) :upset :upset :upset :upset :eek :eek :eek :eek :eek :zzz :zzz :zzz :zzz :zzz :zzz :zzz :) :) :) :) :) :)

that's the manufacturer's contracted service center. Menards can't be held responsible for a *** move on the part of a 3rd party (see the previous post about recommended contractors).

Those places can't just do random work and charge you for it without consent. Go down there and raise ***, they'll take the charges off.

and call the manufacturer. that shop is padding their bills.

Maybe hang a sign "if you buy a mower from us prepare to get smashed in the face" then if they smash you in the face and you are surprised .. some *** will say "didn't you see the sign?!". Point: just because its a policy written on a sign, it does not make it fair or legit..

-not sure the customer would state "it had oil in it" if it did not.

-maybe the customer wasn't concerned about the 78 dollar difference, maybe just the principal

- since all the replies have been Menards employees quoting the return policy then explain the GM too busy to chat with the guest.

Clearly Menards does not do whatever it takes to keep customers.

You are 1000% correct is saying just because a policy is posted on a sign doesn't make it fair. At least it is posted where you can see it before you buy the product.

If you don't feel the policy is fair walk out the door and buy the product where you feel their return policy is more to your liking. If you read the sign and still make the purchase you have no right to come back and complain about it when you try to make a return.

They didn't force you to buy from them. You chose to make the purchase to save a few bucks over a store that charges more to cover the cost of a more liberal return policy.

This return policy is posted all over the area by the mowers and on your receipt. This is a manufacture recommendation because Menards employees are not qualified enough to determine if it was a defect in the machine or a consumer caused issue.

Menards has had manufactures walk away from them because they took too many returns on their products because some STUPlD person jacked it up because they know nothing about gas powered equipment.

AND IT DID NOT COME WITH OIL IN IT. All Menards Mowers come with oil, but you have to add it once you buy it.

@Heartless

I also purchased this lawn mower and it did come with oil in it. My cord also broke and now the choke cord pulled out.

Not knowing better I thought I was getting something higher quality then Walmart. I was wrong.

Yet another person that didn't bother reading the signs in the area of the lawn mowers stating the policy. They wouldn't bother putting them up if they didn't mean it.

If the shop quoted $25.00 for repairs not covered under the warranty and then you let them charge you $102.50 thats your problem for letting the repair shop rip you off. In my state there are laws against exceeding the estimate by that much without approval.
