Rebate are rarely a good thing for the consumer. Stores can offer a 10% discount or a 10% rebate...which will cost them more?

Of course a straight discount. Probably less than half of rebates are redeemed and for those who redeem them the are numerous horror stories. Why go through the hassle for 10% after 6 to 8 weeks. Unless you are making a large purchase there is little reward.

Circuit City did the same thing and lost a huge customer base and eventually failed.

I have been burned enough to know to stay far away from rebates...so I'll stay away from Menard's until they ditch the rebates. Just saying.

Actually close to 90% get redeemed. Most don't have any issues, only the people that fill them out incorrectly or throw them away thinking they are junk mail.

The small purchases add up pretty quickly and then you can use the rebate you receive to buy more things. That is the nice thing about Menards, they have more than just home improvement stuff!

I agree tat Menard's is a great place to shop and I really can't defend my number but there is an interesting Wikipedia article which lays many of the retailer benefits and very few for the consumer.

Said article is irrelevant considering its cheaper for you to shop at Menards before the rebate is even thought about. And wouldn't a smarter play if you were truly this upset with Menards be to take advantage and send in as many rebates as possible? Wouldn't that defeat their "plot" in your eyes?
