The following is an email I sent to Marnards:

I am very, very disappointed in your rebate system. This complaint is not an issue with the money; rather, an issue with your promise and program. My wife and I purchased several items that were part of your "mail in rebate" program on May 26, 2012 at your Fairfield Store in Hamilton, Ohio. We then proceeded to send you the artifacts needed to receive the rebate. Today, three months later, I have not received my rebate. While I had hoped to give it to my daughter so she could purchase some summer lawn furniture, I purchased the furniture from another store that had a similar price and was able to keep their promise when I ordered the product.

Now, it is too late to use the rebates for my intended purpose. I carefully reviewed your rebate #1402 and noticed that we should allow 6-8 weeks. I have done that! And, most notably, I noticed your long discourse on Fraud. Interesting you should mention that. Menards should have a "working relationship" with Title 18 USC Sections 1341 & 1342. I sent my artifacts to you by United States Mail.

Finally, you have lost at least four customers because of promises made and unfulfilled. While you may not care I can assure you these four customers-my family-will never shop at Menards again. And, most notably, do what we can to warn others about your non-existent rebate system. You have a beautiful facility and your staff seems very helpful; however, corporate lies are tiring and need exposed.

Location: Clearwater, Florida

my wife and i purchased a $1300.00 sliding doorwall from the chesterfield mi. store .

the manager at the store as i talked to him about installing this myself , he said at the department desk he had a flyer with a company and owners name he knows is good . i called and this person came out . trusting what this manager said i had the work done . when i came home to let the dogs out the door i could hardly slide open .

i called and the company came out and worked on it . two (2) days later the handle broke off and it had to be fixed to open the door , one week later i called bbb to complain and was told they went out of business . i called menards main office and got a letter back from the woman who said , oh well you bought it it's your . so the cash i asked for on the install coming from the manager is gone .

eleven months later after playing with the door ,got a pella and had them throw out the junk door .

well thats $1800.00 i guess i didn't need . thanks so called big shot at menards .hope you sleep good at night .

I agree! I really like Menards, and shop there vs.

Lowes or Home Depot for my needs - but when they run their 11% rebate offer I just stay away. My take is, I'd rather buy the item when it is *truly* on sale vs, wait and wait and often NEVER receive the rebate.

By contrast, other companies (I am thinking of the farm store Rural King here of the stores I shop at) has a similar program but you submit on-line with data from the sales receipt and receive a gift card within a month.

Yes I feel that rebates are a bit of a scam as the stores bank on you never submitting it. But when you do, Menards definitely drops the ball too many times.

Agree; the rebate processing companies engage in intentional fraud. Happened with Lowes (CLEARLY unreasonable indefensible stated reason for denial) and with Mernards (multiple games...

not sending checks, entering incorrect amounts into system etc).

I think the processing companies get bonuses for the percent of claims they reject so they commit fraud to pocket money at the expense of valid rebates figuring most people will not take the time to call them out on it. I think a class action lawsuit is in order.

Its a scam! Four times now I have not received my rebate- what do I have to do, send the forms by insured mail for goodness sake???!!! Gimme a break, Menards, just give me the 11% off at the cash register at checkout, stop SCAMMING people!

I mail in the rebates and sometimes they never are shown on their website.

http://www.rebateinternational.com/RebateInternational/tracking.do

Other rebates show that they have been mailed out but never arrive at my address.

Just charge me a fair price on your products and forget the rebate nonsense.

I have over $1000 in rebates that I sent in 4 months ago that I haven't seen.

Menards in Fort Gratiot Michigan and Davison Michigan.

The problem with Menard's is that they call their offering a "REBATE" when it is actually an "IN-STORE VOUCHER". The customer actually receives nothing in the form of a rebate. If a customer is forced to use his "REBATE" on other items within the store, then it is a store "voucher" and has nothing to do with the true meaning of "Rebate"..., PERIOD!

Guest

So ultimately what happened here is your rebate was never received, you went to the proper outlet and let them know what happened and what appears to be a few days later, you had a response that promised you the result you wanted. Sooooo....I'm not entirely sure what there is to complain about and why you'll never shop there again. Also, as an employee at that particular location, I can assure you that if you had also brought a copy of your receipt to the store, we would have been more than happy to take care of the issue for you.

I shop at menards all the time I love menards. I also send out for my rebates and I DO GET MINE BACK!!

So maybe some of you are not sending through proper channels, or after date possibly?

Not sure but they are legit rebates when done correctly!

! :)

I never had a problem with the rebates, except recently, when they found a postal worker was keeping them and using them to buy products for himself.

They should make it a policy to check ID's before redeeming them.

The rebate system is a bit of a farce. I purchased a couple of items that were at a decent price anyway but also had rebates.

The rebate is to be issued essentially as a store credit.

If that's the case, just issue a coupon for future purchase at the checkout. Leave the postal service, secondary rebate handler and 6-8 week delay out of it.

I have been doing Menard rebates for years & never had a problem. I have everyone I know doing them now.

The problem is the rebate checks are to small & sometimes get put inside junk mail & magazines & perhaps thrown away. I think a reusable gift card like Walgreens used for rebtaes & a 10% bonus if you had new rebates added to it rather than a new card every month.

How about a phone number to rebate international ? I had problems receiving my rebates and went to store to complain and after arguing with customer service for an hour she broke down and admitted that she is getting tired of all the complaints from customers not receiving there rebates and she admitted that rebates intetiredrnational is actually owned by and created by menards to process rebates because they don't want to deal with customer complaint calls so they created a fictitious company called rebates international and that's why they only offer a P.O address which is why it is only a stones throw away from menards headquarters in Eau Claire Wi I had to contact them a few times and threaten them with contacting State Attorney Generals office and the Ftc which deals with rebate fraud before they finally mailed me my check. It's funny how knowing the right things to say got them to act all of a sudden like they are my best friend and even apologized for what they called a slight mix up. Just so everyone knows

Kate, you're completely incorrect. All rebates are sent directly to Menards and processed on-site by company employees.

I used to work at their HQ and worked frequently with said employees.

Menards is known for keeping as much work in-house as possible. It ensures for greater control over processes and reduces cost.

Guest

Have sent in many rebates and have always received them back as promised. Sorry for your situation, but i have to say, Menards has been great to us. We love there stores.

The intelligence level shown in this thread is alarmingly low.

I am in the process of the same thing i bought a bike back in may or june they mailed my rebate I contacted them about the whole situation that some one forged my signature and etc they have a copy of my mail fraud report my police report etc and still won't issue a store credit or anything wow it's obvious i didn't lie about it if I have contacted every authority figure I was told to and still not make it right.
