Bought a Tool Shop Angle grinder(on sale) and after a few months of use, the on/off slide button started sticking in the on position (dangerous). I took it into local Menards and the Manager said it did not have a replacement as it was discontinued.

The ones in stock had a difference of .1 amp and had a different number. They looked into my account and said they would return original money but I would have to pay full price (not on sale) for the one in stock. The new grinder had a limited warranty. After contacting the Menards tool buyer about what was going on...he sent me a good letter stating they would honor the exchange of the tool.

Letter told me to take my letter into Three Rivers, Mi. store and present it to the exchange dept and the manager was to be informed.

Manager smugly read the note and said ok, then walked away. Rude Manager but I continue to shop at my local Menards.

Reason of review: Return, Exchange or Cancellation Policy.

Monetary Loss: $15.

Preferred solution: Let the company propose a solution.

What a whiner. How did you loose $15?

Looks like you gained. On your first visit you were offered a refund of what you paid for the tool and would have been made whole. You then whined to the corporate office and they agreed to give you a more powerful current version of the tool at no additional cost and you got it. What did you want the manager to do?

Have a big band come out and play a fanfare and congratulate you for getting a deal from the corporate office? Just be happy you got an upgraded tool and quit whining.

The motor consumes 1/10th amp more power than the previous model. This does not necessarily mean it's more powerful but nearly less energy efficient

You will typically find as amperage increases the HP also increases in an electric motor.

As amperage increases, the cost to operate is guaranteed to increase however the performance of the tool is not necessarily going to increase.

I agree - You were offered full refund, that should have been enough.

Also - knowing a thing or two about angle grinders, the 1/10th amp increase was likely a more powerful tool. Go compare the two Milwaukee angle grinders that are the same physical size and same RPM.

One is $100 more and nearly twice the amperage. Though they both have the same RPM, the higher amperage one will maintain that RPM when you put a load on it. Arguing semantics of "doesn't necessarily provide more power" is stupid.

Is your fear that they have a few incandescent lightbulbs buried inside the case of the grinder that are there just to consume extra power in a grand conspiracy to trick the consumers?

Lastly, it is illogical in today's energy-efficient markets to think that a newer version of a product would be LESS energy efficient than the previously DISCONTINUED model. I dare you to find a newer version of something that uses more power than it's predecessor without some added benefit.
