Menards - Pick Up In Store We Pull Review

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Agreed. The petty surcharge is ridiculous- especially when ship to home is not available.

I recently tried to order my college daughter a fan. Decided to have her pick it up in east grand forks store by UND. I thought what the heck and selected three snack items to add to the order for her. Each item had a surcharge.

$1.40 surcharge for EACH $2 peanut snack and fan. Almost 5 bucks to go to the snack area??

The help wanders all day anyway with the standard "hi sir" but never stop and "can I help you sir" unless you stop them. Needless to say I stopped the transaction and had her hit Walmart on Principal.

The help? What is this 1940?

Guest

I mean paying a company like FedEx or UPS to deliver you something would cost way more than $1.40 per item.

Guest

Go to WALMART....on principle....No way even you believed yourself as you were typing that.

Guest

Maybe who should slow down at look at what your being charged. The fee is listed at check out.

The fee is a convenience fee just like you pay at an atm. If you don't want to pay it go to the store and *** the shelf yourself.

Menards - Rebates Tooling Lumber Mattresses Groceries Review

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I have to agree, the whole rebate idea sucks. It's an annoying pain in the *** that is designed to make them money.

People will forget to get the rebate slips, loose their receipts, not bother with smaller purchases, not fill them out correctly, wait too long, not want to wait the 6-8 weeks....among many other reasons; and they all put 11% more profit in their pockets. I preferr HD & Lowes as they take home construction/diy much more seriously.

I think Maynards has lost sight of their customers wants and needs fron their lame rebates to their cheap *** tooling. Just my opinion.

Sure, they could get rid of the rebates and run a promotion here and there and be just like Home Depot and Lowes. They choose instead to offer consumers an opportunity to save more by offering more sales and rebates.

Yes, you may need to put a little effort in to mailing in the rebate and spend it at Menards but it is more than Home Depot or Lowes will ever advertise.

Lowes and Depot will play follow the leader and give a discount when Menards runs their promotions if you ask for it but they sure wouldn't give you the discount if it weren't for Menards. Stop and ask yourself what you would be paying for building materials if Menards wasn't in the game.

Guest

Rebates are just a gimmick. Fighting Rebates International by e-mail many, many times and they do not respond nor send you the promised rebates.

In fact, they do not show as received!

Wow, someone is getting their mail!!

Then if you ever receive rebate, it's on a postcard which most often are conveniently stolen as they are easily used at Menards by anyone who took the mail. Let's see if Menards responds to e-mail sent to them regarding my complaint about this...

Guest

Everytime I check their prices against Lowes OR Home Depot OR anywhere really it's cheaper. Plus I don't have to order anywhere near as much *** from Menards than anywhere else. I see their rebates as an added bonus really.

Guest

If the 11% rebate wasn't a popular promotion and didn't bring in customers do you really think they would run it so often. Just go to any of the Menards stores where you can see a Lowes or Home Depot store from the Menards parking lot and look at which parking lot has more cars in it. Menards will always have more cars in their lot...must be doing something right.

Poor customer service by Menards

Poor customer service by Menards
Poor customer service by Menards - Image 2

We recently purchased two windows by special order from Menards Rochester North in MN. Those two windows costed us $1442.62.

When we picked up the windows, we immediately noticed one window's front screen was damaged. We went to the store and asked them to reorder a screen for us. When our contractor took the plastic wrap off the other window, he found the other window's screen was also damaged at the same spot. The contractor also found one side of the window wood frame was speciously damaged.

We went to talk to a manager and asked him to order the parts and send a technician to fix the window frame for us. The manager told us that Menards could not fix the damage for us but order the parts for us only. That is, we spent $1442.62 for two damaged windows, plus the cost to hire a contractor to fix the window and several trips from home to the store and back.

It is clearly that Menards sells damaged products to its customers and made its customers (us) the victims to pay for the costs. Thus, please DO NOT purchase any fragile products such as windows from Menards, because you have to pay full price for damaged products and they will not pay for the cost to fix it.

" speciously "

?

Guest

They also order the wrong size windows...2X for us in Muskegon.

Guest

We've purchased no fewer than 20 windows from Menards over 15 years and have not had any issues with quality. We also did not spend $700 for each one.

Yikes!

How fancy are these windows?!? I'm surprised your contractor wasn't empowered with purchasing the windows; often they can get better deals than we lowly DYIers do, and know what to look for to ensure quality as well.

Guest

First of all, your expense are YOUR expenses. Paying your contractor, your gas, any labor to have said windows fixed comes out of your pocket and you will not nor should you not be compensated for being an unattentive *** (or your contractor by proxy, if he picked it up).

Second, you shot yourself in the foot when you accepted the windows as they were and did not immediately return them upon inspection and demand a reorder (the only thing that Menards will do and is obligated to do beyond returning the sale -25% restocking) in which case any expense you claim as inconvenience is still YOUR problem. The store's obligation ends at the door, so it your responsibility to bring it back to their doorstep when a problem arises in order to protect yourself. You're lucky they even agreed to order parts for you to fix it yourself, as you should just through it directly through Jeldwen since that's where they come from anyway. Doing so is just a *** measure at damage control for them since it costs much more for them to eat a reorder, but it's exactly what they have to do if you demand so or else forfeit the sale.

Also, what is it about everybody wanting these stores that sell the products to perform repairs or maintenance on the *** they buy from them?

They stock the items only, they don't even install anything and all deliveries for Menards in particular are third party. Certainly if you already have a 3rd party in your employ (contractor) you wouldn't be expecting the store to actually fix your ***?

They'll just get you another one. Why the *** do you think they would staff someone to do such a thing when the products aren't even manufactured there?

Guest

You neglected to say the plastic wrap was clear and that this damage would have been easily noticed when you got the windows. You also fail to say how long they had been sitting on your job site. Since you had the opportunity to inspect them when you got them it is very possible something hit them on your job site since no damage was noted when you received them from Menards.

Guest

You should have refused to take the windows or taken them back for a full refund when you found the problem(s). By the way, what exactly does "speciously damaged" mean? That's a new one.

I'm sure they trow nails and glass around to ruin your tires. Is this near a trash container?

Seems like that if you got a nail in a tire there once common sense would tell you not to drive in that area if you saw glass there the next time you were there. When you see a pothole in the road do you try to hit it or avoid it?

Menards - Customer Care Review

Went to menards tonight for vent hose and couldn't find exactly what I was looking for. A younger guy helped me and didn't know anything about the products.

I said excuse me to one guy and he looked at me then turned around and continued walking. The guy with the plumbing department wasn't very friendly and made me feel like I was bothering him and taking up too much of his time. We pay your pay check people! Menards needs to work on thier customer service.

Sooo what you're saying is....Somebody was already trying helping you and you called out to another person who has no clue what is going on. Said other person turns around and sees you with the first person and can logically deduce that you weren't calling for them because you are being helped already.

Turns around to find the person that was calling to them...So you like set them up like ya...Then the first person is pissed because they hear you brutally bashing on their in entire existence and decides *** it and calls the actual person that works in that area and warns that person. Next you come flying in with the bashing on his livelyhood and threats, that you completely miss the fact that you've just spent the last 2 hours complaining instead of getting assisted and leaving. What's next is the best part....after all of this....Why do you have a frowny face? What is upsetting you?

Why would you have an attitude with me?

What did I do? Here's a hint: if you leave out the *** and just take the assistance offered you would've gotten out of there quicker and maybe even could've asked that guy how to formally complain on the first 2 people if you truly believe that was what was necessary.

Guest

All these people helping others and ***. Can't believe they wouldn't have stopped helping those other people to help you. Mr Menard should fire them *** for not telling those other people to screw off to help you.

Damaged Product - right before my eyes!

First, one of their special order folks dropped a special order door right in front of me in the warehouse, destroying the frame. When I went to the other area of the yard to pick up my in-stock doors, 1 of them looked like a fork from a fork truck had gone through it. The guy tried to find me another one, but said the other ones in stock didn't look any better. On that day, I drove 45 minutes to get 3 of the 5 doors I'd ordered. They were SUPPOSED to be sent to a store 20 minutes from me but that's an entirely different mess. Now it turns out they ordered the wrong size doors entirely, and even the 3 I picked up are useless. Literally, everything that could have gone wrong has gone wrong, and now they want to charge me a restock fee on the re-ordered special order door that's of no use to me because they ordered the wrong size on that one as well. So, off to Lowe's I go! I swear, EVERY time these guys screw me over I say "This is the last time, I'll gladly spend a little more at Lowe's", they remind me why I only shop there 1-2 times a year. I would especially avoid the Clive, IA store folks, just a suggestion. At least the folks in Altoona are friendly.

It was unfortunate your door was damaged but I don't see how they ordered the wrong door for you. They don't come out and take measurements or determine swings of doors or the style you want.

They enter the order based on the information you give them. As they work with you to order a door there is a picture of the door you are ordering on the computer screen.

They print out a detailed order that includes a description of the door with all the sizes for you to you to review before YOU take it to the cash registers to place the order and pay for the doors. Just don't understand how you can say Menards ordered the wrong door.

Guest

As a contractor, I shop at all of the Menards stores in Des Moines. I find them all to be very helpful.

I see customers come in, act like they know what they are talking about, ordering things and telling the employees they don't know what they are talking about.

Then days later see the same person come in saying "Menards screwed up!" Funny, I haven't had any issues with Menards in nearly 20 years spending thousands a year, but you have so many issues. Maybe it is you.

Guest

Sounds like an accident happened and they tried for 45 minutes to make it right for you. Sometimes things happen, but you probably don't make mistakes.

Don't you get a copy of the order they write?

Did you check it to make sure they ordered what you asked for? It is pretty hard to order 5 doors incorrectly unless the measurements given are incorrect.

If there is a store closer, why didn't you order from them?

It's all a matter of how you enter your search. If you enter fireplace sand (one word for fireplace), the first item that comes up is the silica sand that can be used in fireplaces. If you enter it as fire place sand (using 2 words for fireplace) you get a different result.

Horrible Store

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

My husband and I were in Menards in Omaha, NE. We were purchasing wood flooring for our bedroom. In addition to the flooring, my husband was looking for a bit. He had his old bit with him so he could compare and make sure he got the correct one. While looking, he couldn't tell from the packaging so he opened the bit to look closer. It wasn't what he needed so he put it back, pushed the plastic back over and hung it back up.

We proceeded to check out, paying over $1200 for the flooring. As soon as we walked towards the exit, several employees surrounded us and accused my husband of STEALING a $2.24 bit!!! Are you freaking kidding me??? We would spend over $1200 but steal a $2.24 item? I was left to sit with all the flooring while my husband was pulled into the office upstairs, questioned and made to empty out his pockets.

When he explained that he had opened the packaging to look at the bit, an employee walked back down to the aisle and indeed......found the exact package that had been opened. My husband was lectured about opening packages in the store and sent on his way.

NO apology for the embarrassment caused. NO apology for how he was treated. NO apology for anything that happened.

I will NEVER shop Menards again. Suck it

So...the only person that does anything wrong is your husband and YOU want a *** apology? Get over yourself.

MrSharkNasty

People steal all the time while making a large purchase, this is common knowledge in the retail world! All bit's have the size engraved on them, there is no reason to be taking anything out of the package to compare.

If it's a driver bit it will list #1 #2 #3 and so on. If it's a boring bit it will list 1/4th 1/2 and so on. An educated consumer would have went to the front desk and got a sticker for proof of entrance on such an item. Want better service?

BE A BETTER CONSUMER!

It's a two way street! You cannot hold places of business to high standards when you yourself cannot meet those standards either.

Guest

He should have received an apology but yes, people that make large purchases steal all the time. They may feel it is justified due to their large purchase or they may get the thrill of getting away with a small theft.

He was seen opening the package and putting a bit in his pocket, you can see how it appeared he might have taken a bit. Don't know which retailer you will shop now that you are NEVER shopping at Menards but realize that doing the same thing in other stores that are serious about stopping shoplifters may well end up with the same results.

No Sale price six hours after sale on the item ended

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Decides to purchase an item a couple weeks ago - mid week. Tried to learn about that kind of product through research and talking with people who know much more than I.

Had the product from Menard's in cart for a couple days...as I finished, thinking I would probably go that way. Last view was Sat nite. Woke early Sunday with first thought to make the purchase - local store had many. But evidently ( Yes, I should have looked) the sale ended 12/3.

Contacted Menard's on Sunday at several levels but they would not give me a credit to buy at the sale price. Their position was that computer prices had changed. But a credit would have eliminated that as a defense. I buyt from Menard's almost exclusively W/O checking other stores..

and I buy a lot. This past year, have built a deck, a barn and a garage at different locations almost exclusively with Menard's materials, including fasteners.

But my loyalty wasn't reciprocated since the sale ended 6 hours before my decision to buy. Yes, I should have been aware of the timing; but I wasn't.

What a *** reason to give Menards a bad review! The sale was over.

Guest

Would it be a sale if you could walk in any day and get that price? The reason stores run a sale is to motivate customers to buy.

A sale is for a limited time to get customers in to buy NOW, not whenever it's convenient for them to get in and buy. Next time you see a sale price at any store and you are interested in the item make up your mind and buy it before the sale ends if you want the sale price.

Guest

You missed a sale date and it's menard's fault? If you shop there all the time you know their sales end Saturday and the new ones start Sunday. I bet life is pretty hard for you.

The 25% restock charge would be because you SPECIAL ORDERED materials they don't stock. Read your order form.

It clearly states there will be a 25% charge if you return these materials.

The store ends up selling this stuff in their bargain area and usually for much less than the price they refunded to you. It's only fair that you take part of the loss, it was your fault you ordered materials you didn't want.

Guest

Your delivery ticket is not a receipt. You could have printed a duplicate and you may well have at their kiosk by the returns desk.

I expect you made the purchase during a rebate period and without the receipt with the rebate receipt attached they can only assume you submitted the rebate and deducted the rebate from your refund. No matter where you shop your returns will be much smoother if you have your receipt with you when you make the return.

Rude cashier

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I am a 60 year old woman with a bad back, etc. I was with a friend (who was in a wheelchair) who wanted 8 bags of cedar mulch.

There was no one in the garden center. When we went to checkout with full carts, we asked the young cashier if we could pay for the mulch and if there was someone who could get the 8 bags and bring them up front. She said no on both counts. I asked if she could ring up one bag if I went back to get it, she told me she needed all 8 bags.

She was so rude and did not offer to find someone to help us, nor did she call for anyone. I asked if there was a manager I could speak with...no, again. On my way back to the garden center - almost in tears - I found a young man who gladly loaded them onto a cart and took them up front; he also got someone to load them into my van. I wish I'd written his name down because he was wonderful!

Kearsten, the cashier, still kept that nasty look on her face as I checked out.

She is the first rude person I've come across in your Fort Dodge, IA store and I will be sure to watch out for her. I'd rather wait 10 more minutes in another line than deal with her attitude ever again.

Why do people go to self service stores and complain about the lack of service is what I am wondering? I'm not a big fan of Menard's in general, but at least know what kind of business you are shopping at!

Guest

It always amazes me at how people with bad backs and all sorts of ailments go into stores and can't get a product on a cart and to their car. What on earth do they plan on doing when they get these products home.

Who is going to get them out of their vehicle and spread them on their yard? I'd probably bring that person to the store to help rather than a friend in a wheelchair.

No rebates for the larger amounts, only recieved the very little ones

Updated by user Oct 09, 2016

I like shopping at Menards very much, I shop there a lot. it is the rebate program I have problems with.

Original review Oct 09, 2016
I have sent in my receipts for the 11% rebates, only received the smaller amounts never the large amounts. I make copies of the receipts now, so I sent in a receipt for $138.56 rebate on September 12, 2016, I just checked it online tracking number & it said it doesn't have any record of it.

surprise! now how did I know that it would say that! I guess it is a scam.

I also sent another one in for 71.25 & I suppose it will say the same thing, no record of it. Why does Menards advertise this on TV, newspaper, radio & in the store, here I thought it was somebody taking them out of my mailbox & signing my name on it since it doesn't come in an envelope & has your name on the card & Menards doesn't ask for ID so they see your name & just sign your name & then get the rebate.

You sent it in less than 5 weeks ago. Give it a few more weeks and it will be posted.

Menards - Customer Care Review from Irvington, New Jersey

For the past several years, I have been a loyal Menards customer in the Anderson, and Muncie, Indiana stores. This message, that I'm mentioning about has nothing to do with any of the products that you sell, but with one of your employee's bad attitude that he has towards me, and he usually works in the paint department of the Muncie store.

I believe, that his name is Dylan T. I don't know what his last name is right off hand. For the past year, I have had to deal with him for customer service for a few times. He seemed very nice at first, but as time went on, I noticed his rather strange attitude towards me.

Apparently, he feels that I have odd looks, or something, because he avoids me when I come to shop in the Muncie Menards store. In fact, one time last year while shopping inside your store, I was a couple of aisles over, when I overheard him talking some negative comments to his fellow coworkers about me. That is B.S.!! I wanted to mention that I am a decent, or normal-straight person!

And, I will not tolerate his rotten attitude towards me, when I'm inside your store! What right does he have judging me?! I may look dumb to him, but I am not ***, and know when someone doesn't want to accept me! Just last week, I was inside your Muncie store, and went back to the paint department to purchase some silicone tube, and I was needing some help.

But, Dylan refused to help me! When he saw me, as usual, he totally avoided me, and had this pissed off look on him, probably because I was around! He walked right passed me to help to another customer, and walked right past me with his cell phone in his ear pretending that he had a call. But, I know, that this was just his way of totally avoiding me.

And, fortunately, another guy in the paint department came over to help me. I am not usually a complainer, but I am sick and tired of his bad attitude towards me! I don't want to feel intimidated when I come to shop in your nice store. Excuse my language, but I'm not asking him to kiss my ***, or anything.

All I am asking that he shows his customer loyal and respect towards me! I'm tired of his B. S.!! I haven't done anything to him to begin with!

All I ask, that he starts treating like anybody else!

Or, I guess, that I will just have to avoid shopping at your Muncie Menards store, and go somewhere else! I get really mad thinking about this!

Cool story. Now, when are you telling the part about the reason WHY (if this is true) the employee avoids you.

Are you one of those magical people that have a complain about everything? Is everything you buy "broken" or "not what you ordered", so you demand your money back and demand to keep the product?

ok.....even Management at Menards need to get a decent break. Get home at 11 and back to work at 6:30 is a regular thing.

Not true....Target can have you work until 11:15pm (15 minutes after the store closes) and be expected back the next day at 6am for placing the ads. This means getting home around 11:40pm (depending on distance) and leaving home the next morning at 5:30am (waking up no later than 5am).

And no, this is not just management. Trust me, it happens every weekend.

I stand corrected....the ad placement is at 5am, not 6am. So that's even worse (waking up no later that 4am after going to bed after 11:30pm). So yes, it does happen.

I thought the review was about Menards, not Target. Menards policy is to not schedule non-management employees before 9AM if they closed the night before.

Life still sucks for management.

Non management employees are also limited to a maximum 10 hour shift but management has no maximum shift. And they wonder why it's so hard to find people willing to move into management positions.

Hmm, must be new policies. I worked there for 6 years in 3 different states until 2014 and there was no such thing as not scheduling openers at 5 for OSY/Receiving, regardless of closing the night before.

Your shift lengths are dependent on state laws as are break allowances so that is kind of irrelevant; for instance, in Illionois, any shift at least 7.5 hours requires a lunch break, 15 hours 2 lunch breaks, and the first break MUST occur within the first 5 hours of the shift for either.

Management sucks more, you're actually obligated to stay as long as it takes to finish EODs if you're a keyholder and still have to be back to open 'er up at 5. When you write your own schedule it happens less often, only once a week is the way I did it for all my guys that HAD to do a turn-around at some point in the two week rotation.

Rude return clerk

I went in to Menards in Warren, MI to return a small item. I waited a long time and finally asked the female clerk if I could go and get the item to exchange.

She said leave the one that didn't work. When I came back with my item (only one of 4 that actually worked) she yelled at me to get in the back of the line. I am 77, just had surgery, so I leaned on the counter to wait and had the nerve to sigh. She yelled at me some more that I had to go to the back of the line and she had to fill out paper work.

I walked out..

what else could I do. Horrible person, horrible service!
