On April 17,2010, I purchased all the materials to build a 30' x 16' deck attached my house for $2,124.00. I hung the joists and found that I could use 6 more 16' 2 x 8 boards instead of some boards that were delivered. On Saturday, May 1, I made...

Menards in Washington, District Of Columbia - False ad and RUDE!!! manager

I was making the purchase of several vegetable plants when I was told my choice was not the sale items; I begged to differ since I had the ad with me which does not name brands not available in the sale... When I asked to speak to a manager (TOM) he began the conversation with a arguement about how *** people are not to know the difference and that none of "the bonnie brand" is included in this sale. He went on to compare one type of Toyota to another and asked if they would sell for the same price?? What the heck did that have to do with tomatoes is beyond me and his rude, gruff manner of speaking made several other people turn their heads in wonderment. If a specific brand is not included it should have a sign hanging outside or it should say that in the add. I left your store without purchasing anything...AND I don't think I want to go back for any further purchases there. MENARDS, here I come. Kate Grossman, Manhattan, Illinois

I spent over $13,000 on a kitchen remodel and bought my cabinets at the exasperating Evansville, Indiana store. The so-called designer made an error on the CAD drawing which forced me to spend more money on additional cabinets and brought construction to a halt for 3...

I can attest to the fact that when it comes to training it's employees, well let me put it to you this way if I hadn't been a stocker at another company, I wouldn't have known what the *** to do. Their idea of training is to give you a hand out, you read it, and there's a multiple guess, true or false section at the end.

The management in stores is THE ABSOLUTE WORST! I don't know where they get people to be store managers. You have to work in every department to become an assistant manager. Then, you work your way up to department manager, then assistant store manager and then you get your own store.

That takes roughly six years and you get a week of training up at corporate.

The geniuses up at corporate couldn't find their *** with both hands tied behind their backs. Store policy, when it comes to a problem such as the one mentioned here is often vague and sometimes left up to the discretion of the store's manager.

I have been rebating with Menards for years and recently several of my rebates are less than they should be, in one case half of the amount they should have been. What's the deal and how can I collect on the amount owed to me? I purcased a case of 10 bird suet...

Be VERY careful when you buy chain saw chains at Menards. Since their security is non-existent, I've seen groups of landscapers go in to purchase a chain saw blade.

Once they're shown where they are they shoo the employee away. They stand around in a circle and one of them will pull a used/broken chain out of their coat. Another guy breaks open the blister pack containing the new chain and they put the used/broken chain back in the package while slipping the new chain into their coat. Because they're standing grouped all together, the security cameras can't see what they're doing and they walk out of the store with a brand new chain for their chainsaw free of charge.

The idiot teenagers don't know what they're doing and all they see is a package that's been open with the chain still in it. They're told to seal the package back up and put it back on the shelf for some unsuspecting customer pays for a used or broken chain and the landscaping crew walks out with a new chain and pockets the money their boss gave them to buy a new chain for the company chainsaw.

There are any number of reasons you were turned over to someone else. A cabinet order can easily turn into an hour or two project.

Perhaps it was at the end of her shift and she was turning you over to someone with a longer shift. Being a manager they have several meetings each week they must attend and one of those was coming up. She may have been working on an estimate for another customer who went to another area of the store while she was working on their project.

It's much better to be turned over to someone who can give your project their full attention from the start than being turned over part way through. Pretty obvious you have never worked in retail or considered what is involved in a retail job.

Please, please for the love of God, call Menards Corporate and talk to someone. When I would sell a guest furniture, I'd always go over their purchase with them carefully so they understood what the warranty covered as opposed to the extended warranty, about delivery and delivery fees, exactly how the rebate program worked, and I made sure to go over the return policy.

Maybe I was an exception to the rule but I didn't want anyone going back to my manager with a complaint or tell my manager I didn't give them any information. Complaining to the store manager doesn't get you anywhere sometimes. Especially if the store's manager is a jerk. Always, always complain to Menards Corporate and if they can't give you a solution you're satisfied with, report them to the better business bureau and file a complaint with the state's attorney.

It's easy--you can go on line and fill out the forms.

Let it be a lesson, before you apply for a store credit card, understand store policy as it applies to purchases and returns. If someone doesn't volunteer the information, then ask.

Agree with the initial post. Menards has horrible customer service from entry level to Management.

I'm a contractor and shop all around. Home Depot is pretty good.

At least when they screw up they fix it. Menards treats the customer like dirt.
