Disappointed!!!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I am very disappointed with today's service when returning items. A person with the name Gaby at Menards'- Long Grove was very rude and did not want to help me.

To my question, if someone else can help me just say NO. I was the only person at her desk so she was not busy. She did not apologize to me. When I asked for a manager, she told me to look for him/her alone.

This behavior should not be accepted on the return service. Such a person should not work with costumers. She was not competent, she could not find my order, so she only said that I was doing it myself.

I am terrified of this situation and it is in such a large store. I will not do more shopping at this store.

What are you babbling on about? You start by complaining about problems with a return but then talk about her not being able to find your order and that you had to find it yourself.

Were you making returns without a receipt for all the products?

It is not their responsibility to find your receipts. The do have a self service kiosk where you can print a copy of your receipt to verify the price you paid for an item and no, the cashier isn't going to find your receipt for you.

Bob- overpaid stock "man"

I was in the store in the hardware isle picking up items for my husband. I had a bit of trouble the last time I was in there finding nylin lock nuts.

So this time, when an employee entered my isle, I decided to ask for help after the employee was already helping another man find an item. When I asked for help, he replied, "I just helped that one man, I don't have time to help you" in a rude manner as if I was supposed to know that he was a stock boy only (probably the best person to point me in the right direction since he stocks items?). After I found what I was looking for -by myself- I decided to confront the man. I read his name tag.

It said "Bob" and said to him "thank you for being so rude to me and treating that other man golden". He replied "you're welcome very much".

I decided since that didn't go very well, I would go to the service desk and make a complaint. When I explained the terrible customer service, I wasn't taken seriously and nothing was done about the situation.

If you need help finding nuts and bolts go to a full service hardware store like ACE. Big box stores aren't known for service.

They throw the products on the shelf and expect customers to find it themselves. They just aren't staffed for and kind of decent service.

I get mine all the time. Are you aware they come as folded card stock the size of a post card and not in an envelope?

Could you have thrown it away? There have also been cases of postal carriers stealing them.

Just the other day a carrier in Mankato, MN was hit with 12 counts of mail theft for stealing rebates from Menards. Menards needs to start requiring ID when people use their credit checks to make sure the rightful owner is using them.

I work at "Rebates International" which is part of part of Menard, Inc. in Eau Claire WI.

The Elk Mound PO box is there to throw you off. The building on our website is not even our own! We work in a dump typical Menard office work environment.

Sue Mulder run this dump and you are right we up the prices in the store at 11% rates them lower them again all the time. We also hide products in the store we don't want you to buy during the 11% sale....you just getting played and manipulated as a customer!

If you work at Rebates International how would you know about prices and product location at the stores? Wait, you wouldn't! The prices don't go up during 11% sales, if that was the case, all the store employees would be doing is changing prices since the 11% has been every other week since the beginning of the year...Sounds to me that you are a disgruntled person, making things up...

The only thing they made up was the stores raising the prices when they have the 11% sales. You will find that their everyday prices have been going up in general over the past few years but they don't jump when the 11% rebate is going on..

Products made by the Manufacturing divisions of Menards (Midwest Manufacturing, Dakota Mouldings) such as trusses, concrete block, doors, countertops, particle board products including goulding's and Kleer-View cabinets have gone up the most. Stores are no longer allowed to use local truss plants that can provide better service at a lower price. Before you make a large purchase at Menards be sure you check the competitors prices.

Menards prices just aren't as competitive as the used to be. You will also find the competitors are willing to match prices with the 11% rebate if they are being beat in price.

Linda is 100% correct - "Elk Mound PO box is there to throw you off. The building on our website is not even our own!

I guess the truth really hurts at Meanrds!

The truth is that sales prices are better on individual items while 11% encomposes every item. But are you saying that the truth is that you do not send rebates to people on purpose?

Yup you buy cheap you get cheap. Those 17$ fans break if they fall over once.

However the $35 metal fan goes for years. Itโ€™s the same anywhere you shop. People think they are saving money getting cheap products. The sad truth is quality IS EXPENSIVE!!

Itโ€™s a guessing game. You can buy generic foods ect and be ok.

But buy generic drill or a generic fan and you get exactly what you paid for. No store forces you to buy cheap thatโ€™s ALL on YOU!!

Guest

The only reason stores like Menards sell cheap crap is that people like you don't want to pry a few more dollars out of your wallet to buy a better quality product. Menards offers a range of products from the cheap crap to high quality products.

When consumers quit buying the cheap crap, they will quit selling it.

When you made the purchase you chose to buy cheap crap rather than a quality product. You have only yourself to blame.

What do you mean you've been going around the block for a year? What exactly is your complaint?

Had you submitted a rebate and didn't receive it? If so, how did you follow up on your rebate? Did you track it? What was the result?

If they hadn't received it, did you re-submit? Tell the story of what the problem is.

Going to the store will do nothing to get your rebate. No one at the store can do anything for you.

Did you bother checking the status of your rebate on-line.

Go to the rebate center on Menards.com and enter the required information. At this point either they didn't get your rebate or they mailed it and you thew it away not realizing what it was (they aren't a check in an envelope, they are a postcard) or it was stolen, and yes mailmen have been convicted of stealing the rebates.

Rebate scam from menards

Never got rebate/ said they had no record of it. I should had gotten back over $200.00 dollars, spent a lot of money for home improvement project.

horrible, how they promise you a rebate and you never get it, don't believe them it is a scam.

When you go to the store for help they acts like they don't have a clue and only direct you to a stupid website, which is no help.

Menards needs to stop advertising rebates they do not follow through on there promise. Again you may want to shop at Home-Depot or Lowes at least they give you Military discounts.

Did your mailman steal them? Another mailman was just charged with stealing $500 worth of rebates in Illinois. Perhaps Menards should train their cashiers to check The customersID before accepting rebate checks.

Guest

A few things to consider. First is do you realize that the rebates do not come as a check in an envelope?

They are just a post card.

Second, have you considered they didn't get sent to the correct address? Just look at your post and the spelling errors, did you get the right address on the rebate form or the envelope you sent it in.

Threats to charge customer for full price of rental item

On 5/27 just before 8pm close I rented an item. Got home to find the only battery available with the item completely dead.

So my project was put on hold until 5/28 when battery was finally charged. I later returned the item a few hours later and paid the fees for the extra time. However tonight when I checked my email, there is an email from the front end manager, threatening to charge my credit card $399 for the rental item, that was a few hours late. Not 24 hours or two days, just a few hours, due to the fact that it came with only one battery that was DEAD.

Menards fault for not taking good care of their rental equipment to begin with!Shrug

Really does this person know that Menards makes money the longer the customer keep the item. Crazy right.

Its just ridiculous, Terrible customer service. shrugging:

Did you sign the rental agreement that says that if the unit is not returned in the same condition it was in when you picked it up you were responsible for repairing it? Did you even read the rental agreement?

Because that is EXACTLY WHAT IT SAYS!

And yes, they WILL take advantage of that every chance they get! That's how they make money off of their rental program.

Guest

Did you e-mail them when you found the battery dead or call them first thing in the morning to let them know of the problem? You are much more likely to have late charges forgiven if you notify them right away rather than waiting until you return it late to claim problems with a rental item. Was the email sent before you returned the tool as a reminder you would be charged for the tool if it wasn't returned?

Donโ€™t waste time or money on bedroom furniture

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Yes the furniture is โ€œcheapโ€ but I should at least be able to get a chest of drawers home without falling apart. All their pieces come in damaged and are barely stapled together, the crap just falls apart.

My experience with this stuff has been terrible.

Iโ€™ve wasted so much time trying to get an undamaged piece and now have injured myself when the chest fell apart on top of my legs when carrying. Menards shouldnโ€™t be selling something so shoddy

A bit of advice for those who purchase particle board furniture. Get some good glue!!

Everyone assumes that quality of build is ok as they paid XX dollars for it. However I was taught that particl board is basically woodchips and glue. So itโ€™s always best to double up on glue in areas that can be glued.

This small step has allow d me to keep particleboard furniture for far longer then normal. Yes itโ€™s a bit of a headache but you will thank yourself later.

Guest

You get what you paid for - exactly. While I agree that stores need to be mindful of the quality of what they are selling, Menards doesn't make these products.

You need to 1.

Let Menards know the issue so they can perhaps stop selling the item and 2. Get in touch with the manufacturer for a refund.

Guest

FYI, The furniture comes from Dakota Mouldings, another of John Menards manufacturing plants. They know exactly what the quality is but since the profits are huge they keep selling it.

Guest

Guest

It's a great example of "you get what you pay for". In most cases where you buy particle board furniture it comes unassembled.

This way you can put it together near where it will be used. Shipping assembled particle board furniture through several warehouses having it handled at each and being handled several times at the store and again when you get it home doesn't nothing for it's structural integrity with isn't much to start with.

NO customer service

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I was overcharged. Went back with receipt and manager said there was no proof that wasnโ€™t the price and nothing could be done.

With everything tracked electronically, I know thereโ€™s a way to find the price of an item on a certain day.

There is no national customer service number. Finally found a corporate number. Told me there was absolutely no way to speak to a human unless itโ€™s at a local store. The person who answered said she does not keep any record of phone calls coming in. No notes. No data kept. So basically Menards goes to great lengths to not listen or communicate with customers in any way.

NEVER going back into a Menards store. They are lazy, unethical, and greedy. The fact that they are literally hiding from customers shows that they have something to hide.

How long after the purchase did you decide you were overcharged? What makes you feel the pice you paid was higher than it should have been.

Was it in an advertisement? If so, get a copy of the ad and take it in.

It seems odd that you didn't question the price when you paid for the product. Most people would say something if the cashier asked them for $60 more than they were expecting to spend.

No, I did not check my receipt carefully. That's not something I'm in the habit of doing .

The total seemed a bit high, but I assumed it was because I had not accounted for the carpet pad rebate.I purchased on Friday evening because the sale price ended on SAT. I saw the over-charge on the receipt on Monday when I began entering the rebate form. I went to the store on Tues. The sale price was posted in the store, not in the flier. The flier said 'all woven carpet on sale' but did not list my specific choice.I'm simply asking that someone from Menards take the minimal effort that would be required to confirm the price on the date of my purchase.

This is not difficult, and I'm not asking anything radical. I would only take a manager who is not indifferent and lazy to find out facts. Truth should matter. He should not seem imposed upon by doing his job and making sure that his customer was not cheated.

The right thing should matter. The fact that he dismissed me so quickly and the fact that Menards has NO mechanism for communication tells me that overcharging in hopes no one will notice is common practice.

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Holly H Ees

It sounds like your complaint is about the price of the carpet. When you buy carpet at Menards they either print a picking ticket for you with the price of the carpet (and this should match the register as the prices are coming off the same computer) or it has a tag on it with the price.

If these differed from the register price you have a complaint and should be able to take the tag or the picking ticket back as proof.

If the store manager were to look back in the computer for pricing it would come up with the price you were charged as the registers are using the same data base. Any chance you looked at the wrong tag?

The person that made this post said it is a "nothing rebate". Since the rebate was nothing, there is no rebate to re-issue.

If your rebate was nothing why would they bother sending it?

Guest

Don't worry they will blame the post office again...lol That way they mail them out vs making it electronic. Good lick and I recommend you shop at Home Depot they have much better prices and sale without the 11% gimmick. Maybe you will realize that the prices go up the day of an "11%" sale and it really not a deal at all....your just getting played.

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-1460856

Why would anyone blame the post office? The post said it was a nothing rebate and if this is true there was nothing to send or be received.

Guest

The folks that post for Menards will blame anyone but themselves.

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-1460856

How can they possibly increase all of the prices the "day of an 11% gimmick"? There are literally tens of thousands of different products in the store.

There would be no physical way to change prices on all products.

If HD was so much lower, their parking lots would be a lot more full...There was a post on Menards Memes just the other day showing a price that hasn't gone up in over 10 years on a product. But that wouldn't play into your logic, so you probably shouldn't look...

Stores have the right to charge the correct price for an item. Remenants have a paper tag taped to them with the price.

It is not unheard of to have people try and switch the tags. Another customer may have switched the tag, your customer may have sent you in to buy it after they switched the tag or even you may have switched the tag. In any case the store has the right to put the proper tag on the product. I had tagged bargain area doors one day and not 15 minutes later a customer was trying to get a door I had marked at $225 written up for $50.

She had switched the tags with another door. She quickly left when we wouldn't let her have the door for $50.

Bad service

Went to Long Grove, Illinois Menards. Waited in line for my turn, there were 3 people infront of me.There was only one rep, anyway waited for my turn.

Needed help with Black and Decker edger. Finally 2nd rep came and paged someone, waited again for 15 minutes, 2nd rep left and after waiting for sometime, asked the rep again if she would call. After waiting another 5 minutes, asked her again, she said,"they are coming".

If after 20 minutes they are still coming, do I need to go back to Menards? There were 2 of us, so wasted our time.My friend even said"they got so much stuff in there, you forget what you came in for?" They need to focus on what they started out selling.

Did you ever stop to think that the other people working in the hardware department may have been out on the sales floor helping other customers? Would you expect them to walk away from the people they were helping and run to the desk to help you? Keep in mind half the names on the screen above the desk are outside in the garden center and that's where they stay.
