Menards in Spirit Lake, Iowa - Rebate on paint

I bought 4 gallons of Weatherscreen paint on 4/29/10. It was exterior latex flat. It had a fifteen year warranty. The color was white I sent the rebate forms in right away but never received any money. It cost $15.99 per gallon and the rebate was #3 per gallon. I bought a fourth gallon the next day. It was very good paint and I would recommend it to anyone. I also sent in a rebate for brushes and received that in about 3 weeks. I could have bought a cheaper paint if I knew I was not going to receive the rebate.

are you serious? you should have not gotten any money back- it was used! obviously you did not tell the employee that, and they did not notice it was used.

plus you have to realize that 95% of menards income is off contractor sales. everyday there is probably more than $200,000 that go through the building materials desk and $180,000 is contractors.

1 guest won't make much difference. 300 might though

Menards in Dayton, Ohio - Lied to and refused to honor raincheck

We got a raincheck for a 20" Eclipse bike for $19.99 with a $30.00 rebate. We called to see if any had come in and were told that you had five. We were told that they would hold one. we immediately went 30 miles to the store in Tipp City to pick it up. When we arrived we were told that since we hadn't prepaid, we could not have a bike even with our rain check. This is not the first time we have had similar problems and it very wrong to treat customers in this way.

rain checks are good for 90 days from end of sale- or from the date on it, if you got someone who didnt know that part yet. if they had stock, you could get it, per policy.

I'm going out on a limb and you took the word of the first kid you ran into. Now, the rebate is another matter- you may not have been able to get it if it had already lapsed. Cut 'em some slack, please: complete training takes a while- and Menards does the best training in the biz, even though some doorknobs take a while to absorb it.

And sometimes people ( customers ) only hear what they want when they run into problems at any store. Not pointing fingers, just acknowlegeing what I've seen in many stores.

I live on a little planet called reality, where stuff like that just doesn't happen.

did the store have any when you arrived? if not, you should have asked about doing a prepaid, first come first serve. if you do a prepaid the item is for sure going to be there waiting for you

This is an update to my initial complaint.

Having filed a written complaint to Guest Services, I got a reply back today from Ray in that department. In my complaint form I wrote it comprehensively so that whomever would be reading it would understand where exactly things went wrong both with information and the failure of the product because of it. The response I got back from Ray was this.

"I'm sorry, but confused. What exactly, in 30 words or less, is it you want from me? Please advise.

I admit, I was tempted to ask him if had attention deficit disorder and needed a Ritalyn break, but refrained. This instead was my response.

"I will type slowly then Ray,

I would like Menards to take responsibility and correct this problem."

I got yet another obtuse email back and did email back to say,

"I want the roof fixed CORRECTLY so that I can FINISH the project BEFORE Winter sets in. I do NOT want to play silly games."

I got no response back. The pertinent fact here is, I am not in the building or supply trades. IF I were, I wouldn't have needed Menards' expertise.

In the interim I got news from a family member who had managed to get through to the head manager of the Menards store where I had purchased all my materials. For a change, and a welcome one at that, he very graciously told my sister to have me call him and to ask for him directly. I did so and the difference was like night and day. Thanks Menardo for the advice it did indeed work, though not exactly as you said. My advice to others when dealing with Menards is to skip their protocols of complaining up the chain of managers, SKIP ENTIRELY the Guest Services and go directly to the manager of the store you purchased from. Be clear in how Menards failed in either their representation of a product or services and any damage as a result of it.

While damage done will not be repaired nor the cost of added measures to stop the inflow of water I experienced, Mr. Nestor (sp?) again was gracious, apologized for the horrendous run around I had gotten and the 'protocol' played by Guest Services. He also assured me that the problem will be taken care of and has given me names of contacts in the building supplies department whom he will personally authorize to provide me with what is needed to correct the problem I experienced initially. I am hoping that this is going to be the last complaint I ever feel a need to write on Menards. Should they fail to carry through with what has been promised, I will again be posting. Wish me luck. And best of luck in positive results with the challenges you may face with businesses.

To the Menards employee, it was not the vendors fault, the incompetent menards employee that ordered the product did not order the materials correctly. Then when the order was recieved at the distribution center, they excepted the order as complete, so NO IT IS NOT THE VENDORS FAULT.

I can tell by the hundreds of complaints against menards, they have a habit of incompetence. Sounds like Menards has some strict hiring guidlines for their employees' NOT.
