Menards - Poor customer service in the council bluffs, ia store

Approximately March 15th we priced kitchen cabinets and quartz counter top with Patrick. He suggested we wait for a sale as we were not strapped for time. 2 wks later they were on sale, went to order and found out those cabinets were discontinued, and had been when he priced them to us. Deb then priced different cabinets, and we bought them. Patrick and Deb both suggested we wait for the quartz countertop to come on sale, and said one of them was always there to work with us. Came back to order and neither of them were there, so dealt with Casey. When she called us back with a quote on quartz, it was higher on sale than what Patrick quoted us. Casey was very rude on the telephone when I told her we were being lied to every step of the way. We did not buy the $1800.00 quartz countertop, the $880.00 apron sink or the $350.00 delta faucet at Menards due to the treatment we received. We have bought all of it elsewhere plus $6000.00 worth of kitchen appliances. This all took place at Menards in Council Bluffs, IA

Here's the problem you dealt with 3 different people on 3 different occasions. I can assure you things are going to start to get mixed up, especially at a place like Menards.

I worked at Menards for 5+ years and most part timers just don't work enough or care enough to understand whats really going on and often give horrible information regarding pricing and suggesting products. Turn over is crazy high it's retail after all if a part timer last more than a year it's rare. It's normally some college kid looking for extra cash. Mangers can be just as bad!

Menards idea of a manager is to hire young and dumb so they can control them easier. If you have experience they won't hire you for a manager they promote from with in only. The manger trainee program is a joke it's 2-3 months and then bam you're instantly promoted to an assistant manager somewhere and know nothing about the store or it's products. You have a lot of disgruntled managers at the top who beat up on the part timers.

The only way this won't happen is if you suck up to one of these managers. Often the laziest employees get employee of the month because of their friendships. Overall it's a very horrible place to work and it's because of obnoxious clueless guest and inexperienced miserable managers. /rant over.

The best way to shop at Menards is make sure if your working on a project like that yours always talk to a department manager, don't even waste your time with an assistant manager or part timer. Just be clear and consistent. The first guy you talked to was clearly a part timer and new. He should have easily noticed it was a discontinued product.

I struggle with him advising you to wait for a sale, Menards does not promote that and purposely doesn't tell employees in advance when sales are going to happen to avoid this. So I've concluded on many years of experience that it was you pushing to wait for a sale and you reworded it to make you look better :). Discontinued items are normally on sale from the get go, they don't go on sale several weeks later. So again I'm struggling with that fact.

The final quote may have been accurate it's very possible that Patrick and Deb quoted you a sale price and did not realize it because again they're make silly suggestions that they're not allowed to be making. When you called Casey the item was no longer on sale and the price was higher. Regardless be a better consumer if you want better service! This all could have been prevented if you made sure to work with the same person each time and that he was a manager.

Don't play games either waiting for stuff to go on sale is a game!

If you need it/want it buy it when you see it. Waiting is just risky business especially in a big box store where corporate likes to change things on a dime with out warning.

Purchased bathroom vanity and matching medicine cabinet. Finish flaked off and water stained all the drawer faces. Manager told us it's not designed to get wet!!!!! It's in a BATHROOM!!!!!

I have had some large rebates coming in the past and I have always made copies and sent in the rebate form by certified mail. Costs a few bucks but better peace of mind and I've always received the rebate.

So grab the mulch you want.. Bring to customer service..

Return with no receipt, they will give you back the lowest price it ever was on sale, except.. Then tell them.. You know what.. Nevermind I want the mulch still.

You know why she said OK right? Because there is nothing she can do about you making a statement like that.

Do you want her to beg you to stay at Menards? I can assure you she is happy you're leaving "never to return." Seriously you people need to wake up!!!! Stomping your feet and saying your going to shop somewhere else is exactly how a Child behaves when they don't get what they want. It's your job as a the consumer to treat people the way you want to be treated!

Going to another big box store will not fix anything. Eventually something similar will happen there and once again you will throw your tantrum and return to Menards.
