Menards in South Bend, Indiana - Extended Warranty on Excel Power Washer 3100psi 3.8gpm ("Prosumer")

1.4
Details
I purchased a power washer at Menards, I also purchased an extended warranty. The product broke down after the original manufacturers warranty expired, starting the extended one. I filed a claim with Menards.com and they show it as an "invalid product" yet the expiration date for the product is 4/2017. It also shows the proper model number, product and purchase under it, just listed as invalid. I file a claim regardless. I never receive a phone call or email and waited over a week. I logged back in to check the status of my claim only to find that it was "Denied". With no phone call, email or any other type of visit, Menards simply decided that it was my fault and left me out. Menards customer service is just awful, they hire cute, high school kids to blind you from the fact that you're being ripped off or getting stuck with their rebates that most times get "lost" in the mail since it's a tiny piece of paper that the mailman or neighbor has probably stolen since it there is nothing stopping anyone from seeing the rebate amount and it's not like you need an ID to cash those in...

You must be doing something wrong with rebates. We've received every one we ever submitted.

You just pick up the appropriate card (it's listed on the receipt) mail in the receipd and filled out card and you'll get it. Pretty quickly too.

Did you register the warranty when you bought it? If you didn't it won't show up on line. Try calling the 800 number on your warranty and see what they can do for you.

We purchased an MTD gas powered lawn mower, used it twice and it stopped working. Menards told us to get it repaired and it's nothing to do with them because we put gas in it

It was be covered under the manufacture warranty if it's not a consumer caused issue. You can write so I'm pretty sure you can read, check your receipt it says on there this policy about gas powered equipment.

It's also posted all around the mowers. This is to protect Menards from clueless people who jack up equipment all the time and expect someone else to foot the bill.

I'm having the same issue but with a power washer and I purchased the extended warranty! Now, if they won't fix it because I put gas in it, then why sell me an extended warranty???

Anonymous
#1006687

Why does this come as a surprise to you. There are signs all around the gas powered equipment explaining the fact that they have to be taken to a service center, not returned.

A majority of the problems are consumer misuse, be it using old fuel or not adding oil. If you look at the warranty provided by the manufacturer, it covers repair of the mower, not replacement.

Menards in Sandusky, Ohio - Money in the trash!

We followed the instrcutions for ours. Tested it with ice to make sure it worked for at least 2 weeks with everything all good. Put meat in it, checked it weekly & then bam. Spent the weekend away & didnt check it for about 5-7 additional days to find out nothing is frozen. Dont know when it happened but its full of meat & its all a loss. Menard's has a *** customer service department & they offer no help with issues. Once i payoff the hot water heater we purchased i am closing my account & shopping at Lowe's. We should have paid more money for a better freezer. We would still be ahead if we had done that.

Why are you so upset with the store? They didn't make the freezer. You should be upset with the manufacturer, not the retailer.

Menards in Conway, South Carolina - Broke glass blocks

2.3
Details
They arrived broken. I have called and sent e-mails, and they have given me the runarround. I am hot on one to complain, but it is hard to get in touch with a person that will help. Their customer service is horrible!!!!! How does a company with this type of service stay in business? I have spoken with multiple people, but most were so unwilling to help. I am a professional and can't understand why they are so unwilling to help. The problem is the product was improperly packaged for shippment, broken, put my project on hold, and they did not seem to care about my problem.

Did you attempt returning the broken blocks to the store with your receipt? Don't know what you expect without returning the block you say is damaged.

Menards - Insane Squeek

The parking cable on mine broke almost right away also. I live over 60 miles from the nearest service center and he does not even like to discuss the YS200. My bigger problem is an insane rotational squeek coming from the rear some place. The faster you go the more frequent it becomes. If I jack it up and take weight off the rear wheels and run it it doesnt make the sound. It an embarrassment to even ride it around other people. Calling the factory is a waste of time. Has anyone out there had a similar problem and what was the cause.

Supply and demand. Consumers demand cheaper product Manufacturers(not retailers) make cheaper product to meet the demand.

It's up to the consumer to be informed you are trading your value.

Make yourself informed about manufacturers to make informed decisions. Side note: Retailers actually do consumers a favor by having different manufacturers products available in your area.

There is a reason these are cheaper than the name brand vehicles. Low quality materials and little support after the sale.

My spouse works at a Menards and he is a very intelligent person who has a Masters. Please do not judge a company in whole on one incident. It makes you look like an unreasonable person.

Menards in Minneapolis, Minnesota - Motorized shopping cart dies in middle of store and employees laugh

A month ago I injured my left leg due trip and fall issue on my own personal property and have had to wear a support brace while the injury heels. Between that, being middle aged, and heavyset I have had issues walking distances but able to drive to help maintain my independence and employment. Last week in the late evening I went to the local menards store to do some browsing since my injury has significantly limited my carpentry and mechanical hobbies. As I exited my car I observed one of the cart collecting employees wearing the crossing guard type vest driving a motorized shopping cart aimlessly in a figure 8 pattern in the parking lot. I flagged him down and he came over and told my I was more then welcome to use it. Being I had the motorized cart to use for the duration of the visit the young man was even generous enough to place my crutches back in my car and closed my door for me. Everything was going fine until I approached the area with the outdoor furniture. Right in the middle of the display area the motorized cart quits operating leaving me stranded. Unfortunately this area tends to be somewhat isolated from the rest of the store since above the outdoor furniture area is a low ceiling with a floor above where I believe they overstock larger size items. Being in the late evening the store is on the slower side and no one in the immediate area however observe 2 male employees loitering by the service desk so I look over to them and yell "hello, the cart quit working can you give me a hand please" They look at each other and smirk, laugh and walk away in different directions, neither is towards me though. I sat there for 10 minutes waiting for assistance, until another 2 employees walk by one of which I recognize as a manager who's always in a bad mood no matter what. I politely tell her I was shopping and the cart died can I please get some assistance. She replies "sir, we provide these carts for convenience only and if the cart is broken you personality will be held responsible for any and all expenses" and then said she will see what she can do. Finally another 10 minutes later a younger couple who is browsing the furniture area also, recognized my distress and offered to assist me. I explained the cart died leaving me stranded and the store staff is a farce and absolutely useless. I can limp short distances with the brace but considering the size of the store and distance to my car I need help. All I'm asking for is for someone to either retrieve my crutches from my car or get a wheel chair for me or something so I can leave. The man offers to go out to my car with the keys while his wife stays with me. He returns a couple minutes later with the crutches and assists me to stand up and even helps me out to my car. On the way out I observe one of the younger gentlemen salesmen who laughed at walked away from me at first. He was holding a wide dusting mop while socializing with a younger female co worker. When he sees me this time he smirks and actually had the nerve to preform an obscene gesture by rapidly reciprocating his hand up and down the top of the wood mop handle. The couple also observed the carless offensive demeanor of the employee and told me they will be going elsewhere if thats the type of people they hire here. I wanted to call the menards corporate office to discuss the frustrating situation only to find out they only communicate though e mail. So I type out a letter describing this situation and get back some prewritten generic "form letter" from "Ray" Hopefully writing on here about the poor customer service menards provides has some effect on this mismanaged company. thank you

The guy named Ray is John Menard himself. That's how he signs his responses to Guests.

FYI: Being middle aged is NOT a disability. Being fat is not a disability. If you can't handle walking, maybe you should stay home and stuff your face some more.

And another thing how dare you ask store staff to provide any form of customer service on a slow evening. Socializing with staff ALWAYS supersedes assisting some old fool.

P.s. If I was there I'd laugh too

Thank you

Menards employee for life??? LMFAO!!!

Oh I don't doubt that statement for one second! And, I hope you enjoy your little retail job collecting carts, because you won't ever be able to do anything else in life. How's it feel to be uneducated, ignorant, ugly and not able to earn more than the Federal mandated minimum wage?!!!

Pathetic loser, who's laughing now! NOT YOU!

@Anonymous

If a customer is requesting assistance from a employee who company time being paid I would assume laughing at the customer's face, walking away for no reason, then simulating a offensive and lewd act would be the absolute last thing the employee should do. Perhaps Menards holds themselves to a much lower standard then other businesses.

Even fast food restaurants are considerate enough to carry the food tray to the table, or open the doors for elderly or physically challenged customers. The way multiply employees responded to this situation I would think would be a absolute embarrassment.
